- You are going to start reading Around the World in 80 Days. Click on each chapter to read it.
- As you read you will mark on this map, all the locations the man travels through on his way around the world. You will mark the cities/countries with numbers. Print out the map and glue it into your NB and refer back to it each time you read another chapter.
- Then create a KEY page, fold it in half hamburger style. You will write the number and each location's name on the top half of the page. From one point to the next, you will use different colored lines to show the different types of transportation he uses. You will make another KEY on the bottom half of the page, showing which color means which type of transportation. If you need help with this ask me before trying to create your KEY.
- Read the Juvenile version - CHAPTER ONE. {You can also use the original version, audio, but if you use the audio, you’ll have to find the right chapter each day and click on it.}
- Write number 1 on your map approximately where Phileas lives. On the KEY page of your map, starting in the top left corner write 1 and then the city name where he lives. (For example: 1 London, England.) If you need help finding locations on the map, you can search for them online.
- You are going to start in London, like Phileas did.
- Watch this video to learn the difference between the United Kingdom, England and Great Britain. Only watch to 2:17.
- Take a look at some British money..the bills are called notes. There is a link at the bottom to see those bills.
- If you want you can create a PowerPoint page and copy/paste some of the money images on and then glue the page into your NB. Make sure you resize to fit the page before printing.
Day 2 UK
- Read chapter 2 (or audio). If he travels to a new location, label the location on your map and KEYand then draw a line showing how he got there. Include each mode of transportation on your map key.
- Read about the UK. Then choose TWO of of the countries in the UK to read about using the links at the bottom of that page.
- Find the map of Europe in your NB, label each country in the UK with a number. On a separate page, write the number and each corresponding country's name. Glue the map into your NB.
- Play Seterra, UK
- Find the COUNTRY journal pages in your NB and write a brief history of England.
Day 3 UK
- Read chapter 3 (or audio).
- Finish your COUNTRY page from Day 2.
- In the BOX on the side of your page, draw the flag or an outline map of the country to help you spot it’s shape on geography map labeling games.
- Start a page in your NB of flags. Make the maps around 2 X 3 so you can get quite a few on a page. Write the name of the country under each map as you create it. The page will look similar to this page when you are finished. The first flag will be the flag of the United Kingdom.

Day 4 UK cont.
- Read chapter 4 (original version, audio).
- Play Seterra, UK.
- Go through this European country tutorial. Click on each country on the map. The squares and dots are to help you click on the tiny countries. Read about the countries.
- Choose 2 countries that you learned about and draw a picture of their flag on your flag page in your NB. If you don't have one yet, go back to Day 3 #4.
- Read chapter 5 (original version, audio).
- Go to England. Click on the different links. Write the answers to the "write about it" questions in your NB. Date and number your page.
- Play Seterra, UK.
- Play the European country game level 1.
- Play this British money game
- Read chapter 6 (original version, audio). If he travels to a new location remember to label the location and draw a line showing how he got there with the coordinating color guide. Include each mode of transportation on your map key.
- Use the links to learn about Greece.
- Find the COUNTRY journal pages in your NB and write 5 things you learned about Greece on the page and then glue it in your NB. (You can also just draw the whole thing in your NB instead).
- Read chapter 7 (original version, audio).
- Label Greece on your map.
- Find its time zone.
- Find today’s weather.
- Look up a phrase in Greek.
- Greece’s currency is euros. How much is 100 dollars in euros?
- Look at pictures of Greece.
- Write all this information in your NB or on your COUNTRY journal if there is room, labeling each piece of information accordingly so you can go back and understand what you wrote, then glue it into your NB.
- Draw the map of Greece on your COUNTRY journal page square.
Day 8 Norway
- Read chapter 8 (original version, audio).
- Read about Norway’s history.
- Use the links to learn about Norway.
- Write 5 interesting facts you learned in your NB or on your COUNTRY journal if there is room, labeling each piece of information accordingly so you can go back and understand what you wrote (ex: 100,000 people as of 2009), then glue it into your NB.
- Draw the map of Norway on the COUNTRY journal page square.
Day 9 Norway cont.
- Read chapter 9 (original version, audio).
- Label your map with Norway.
- Find its time zone.
- Find today’s weather in Norway, and write it on your Journal page, make sure to include today's date.
- Look up a phrase in Norwegian and write it on your Journal page, remember to write the translation.
- What is Norway’s currency? How much is $100 US dollars worth?
- Look at pictures of Norway.
- What observations can you make about Norway from the pictures? Write your observation in your Journal with explanations.
Day 10 Europe
- Read chapter 10 (original version, audio).
- Find the continents.
- Play Seterra, UK.
- Play the European country game level 3.
- Play Seterra: European capitals.
Day 11 France
- Read chapter 11 (original version, audio).
- Print and complete this map worksheets on France. Click on “Mapping France.” Here’s your map to help you. First click on the continent. Then glue the worksheets into your NB with date, title and page numbers.
- Play Seterra, French cities.
- Draw the map of Norway on the COUNTRY journal page square or in your NB.
Day 12 France
- Read chapter 12 (original version, audio).
- Play Seterra, French cities.
- Where do the countries go?
- Try to learn some French greetings. Put your mouse on the French words. Write each one in your NB with the translations.
- (*) Draw the French flag and the outline shape of the country in the box on page 2.
Day 13
- Read chapter 13 (original version, audio).
- Read about France’s history and write about it on the blank lines.

- Label them all on your map.
- Add a flag for each country to your flag page.
Day 26
- Read chapter 22 (original version, audio).
- Learn the capitals of the European countries.
- Look at the list of 10 countries from yesterday and find the capital city for each. Write them next to their matching country on your list.
- Find the country on your list of 10 that has the largest population and write a complete sentence regarding the population at the bottom of your NB page. Here are some examples for you. The population of blah blah country was some number and then write something about that...Did the number surprise you? Was the number smaller than you thought? Is the population larger or smaller than the US?

Day 29
- Read chapter 25 (original version, audio).
- Pick the hardest level under countries that you think you can do.
- Pick the hardest level under capitals that you think you can do.
- *Label what you can. You can point and name the countries and capitals or number them and write a list. Hold onto your map.
- Tell me which levels you completed on each.
