Writing Notebook

Day 1 Awesome Adjectives

  1. Glue the adjectives foldable page into your NB.
  2. Complete the Awesome Adjectives worksheet and glue it into your NB
  3. Complete the Adjective sentences on the next page in your NB.
  4. Play this Grammar Ninja Game - choose skilled or master.
  5. Watch this video about adjectives.
  6. Turn your NB into the basket when you have completed everything for today.


Day 2 Action Parts
  1. Color your Action Foldable page, Title, Date.
  2. Finish your Awesome Adjectives Sentences. Add a Title and Date.
  3. Complete the "Build Action Parts" worksheet and add to your NB
  4. Complete the When, Where, Why, How pages, cut out and glue into your NB. 
  5. Play this Grammar Ninja Game - choose skilled or master.
  6. Watch this video about W,W,W,W,H
  7. On the next 1 or 2 page spread - write about 
  8. Turn your NB into the basket when you have completed everything for today.


Day 3 Narrative Writing
  1. Watch this video and this video about writing a narrative essay.
  2. Find your Narrative Writing practice worksheet.   Rewrite the GOT story in the next page of your NB. Date it.
  3. Play this Grammar Ninja Game - choose skilled or master.
  4. Find the Narrative Writing worksheet.  You will put your topic from #5 at the top of the page.  Answer the questions and glue the worksheet into your NB.
  5. On the next page in your NB you will write the story, skipping lines.  The subject is:  
You can bring any single object to life, tell what you chose and how you did it?  



Day 4 Narrative Transitions Words
  1. Watch this video about narrative transitions.
  2. Watch this video and this video about transitions in writing.
  3. Copy this page into the next blank page in your NB, date it.
  4. Complete the Narrative Transitions activities and glue them into your NB.
Day 5 Descriptive Writing
  1. Watch this video.
  2. Read the paper below. - Teacher Notes Effective Description
  3. Find the Descriptive Paragraphs Lesson 13: worksheets #1and #2 in your NB.
  4. Evaluate #2 with colors by circling or coloring each element. (Color Key: sights=blue, sounds=orange, smells=purple,,tastes=red, feelings=pink, touch=green)
  5. Glue #2 in your NB on the sides, Then glue #1 on top with the coordinating colors for each description.
  6. Watch this video.

Day 6 Bio Poem
  1. Create your BIO Poem with the information above.  {Make sure you have a page number, date and title for your page.}  
  2. To give you some ideas here are some examples and some more and some more and some more and more.
  3. Make it look creative!!

Day 7 Expository Intro
  1.  Watch this video. Then this video and this video.
  2. First look up the definition of Anecdote and write it on the top of the next blank page in your NB.
  3. Look up the definition of Expository Writing.  Write it in your NB under the Anecdote definition, with a page number and date.  Find your Expository Essay foldable in your NB, glue it on this same page.
  4. On the next blank page in your NB, write the date and page number and title it with "My Favorite ......." and fill in the blank with what favorite thing you want to write about.  You will write your first expository essay outline on this page.  Use this page to outline what you will write. 
Day 8 Expository Writing

  1. Reread your Expository outline and see if it still makes sense, make any correction on your outline that you need.  
  2. If you want to watch the previous days' videos again, clicking on the above links.
  3. On the next page in your NB, you will start writing complete sentences to create your essay.  Use your outline as a guide and make those notes that you filled in on your outline into an actual sentence that SHOWS not tells.  No dead words allowed!  It will need to be one full page, skipping lines.  If you want to pre-write it on another piece of paper and then transfer it into your NB when you are finished with it, go ahead.

Day 9 Sequence Writing Practice
  1. Think of something that you can explain to someone else.  An example is making a PBJ sandwich or tying your shoes.  Come up with your own idea.
  2. Print this page or make similar boxes in your NB to put your sequence in. 
  3. At the top of your NB page, write the Title of your explanation (example "How to make a PBJ sandwich").  Date it.
  4. Fill in the boxes and then re-read it to make sure you haven't left any steps out.
  5. Turn each box into a full sentence and write the steps in a paragraph from at the bottom of the page or the next page if you need more help.  Proofread it!  Spelling, Periods, Re-read it again..missing anything?

Day 10 Sequence Writing
  1.  Read about Paul Bunyan.
  2. Find the Sequence paragraphs foldable, or create it in your NB.  Ask mom what she was doing during the years listed on the worksheet.
  3. Color each box a different color.
  4. Transform each item into a sentence, write it on the next page in your NB.  Then transform those sentences into a paragraph on the next page.  Underline each sentence with the same color as the coordinating information box it came from.
  5. Don't forget to Title, Date and add a page number to each of your pages.
